Citizen Animals
Citizen Animals began as an interactive installation at PS2 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of Give and Take 2, curated by Tonya McMullan. I asked visitors to the gallery to take a handcut vinyl animal and speech bubble of their choosing and to place them in the street. They were also charged with tracing the objects they chose to take prior to the taking and also to upload photo documentation of the new locations in the street. Some things are more successful than others.
Later the same year, I made a second version of Citizen Animals for Within the Landscape, The Landscape Within at Emily Davis Gallery, University of Akron, OH, curated by Charles Beneke. This version is in a box now but is actively seeking a home out in the urban wilds.
